City Information and History

Redding, California, "The Jewel of the North” is situated along the Siskiyou Trail with exceptional real estate and mid-sized community located along the banks of the Sacramento River and lies between several mountain ranges. Redding real estate offers immense living, recreation, and business opportunities. Redding is the county seat of Shasta County, California and has approximately 108,000 residents. Being the largest city north of Sacramento, Redding is only a short drive away from Mt. Lassen, Mt. Shasta and Lake Shasta, the largest manmade lake in California, and offers many recreational lake sports. Local residents and tourists enjoy houseboating, water skiing, seasonal snow skiing, and fishing.

Public Transportation & Highways

Major highways, I-5, California 299 and California 44 make for easy and accessible travel into and out of Redding.

Redding has a public transit system (Redding Area Bus Authority) with routes throughout the city of Redding and other local communities. Amtrak also runs a national passenger rail system that links Seattle, Washington and Los Angeles, California.

 
There are two general airports in the Redding area, Redding Municipal Airport which has scheduled airline service from two airlines, Horizon Air and SkyWest (United Express) and Benton Airpark.

Local Climate

The seasonal weather patterns in Redding offer mild winters and warm, dry summers. Winter months in Redding are likely to be fairly rainy, with occasional snow when the temperatures unseasonably dip. The summers in Redding can be hot and dry almost every year (although heavy rain can occur at anytime throughout the year). The average temperature in July is around 100 degrees. Winters can dip as low as 30 degrees but average around 35 to 40.

Medical Facilities

Redding has two major hospitals, Shasta Regional Medical Center and Mercy Medical Center, along with 32 assisted living facilities, 15 convalescent hospitals, a veteran's outpatient clinic and a large medical community of physicians, dentists and walk-in clinics.

Schools and Colleges

There are three major high schools, six middle schools, 46 elementary schools, 4 charter schools, and 30 private schools in Redding. There are also 11 other high schools in the surrounding communities of Redding. Redding also has five colleges and universities.

Parks and Recreational Areas

Redding also offers outdoor adventures in camping, hiking, and boating at Lassen National Park, and the Whiskeytown National Recreation Area. Not far from Redding are the Trinity Alps and Cascade Recreation areas.
 

Shasta County and the Redding area offer many other points of interest. A few of the many sights include: Burney Falls State Park, Hat Creek Radio Observatory, Lassen Volcanic National Park, and Shasta Dam, The surrounding areas of Burney, Fall River Mills and The Upper Sacramento River area offer world’s best fishing.

Within the town of Redding, the Redding Big League Dreams Sports Complex has a Stadium Club restaurant and has four major-league stadiums three of which replicate Boston’s Fenway Park, Chicago’s Wrigley Field and New York’s Yankee Stadium. There are also four all-weather soccer fields, which adds to the wide-range of athletic activity. The facility is also presenting concerts and other main attractions and has parking for 400 cars.
 
Located adjacent to the Turtle Bay Museum is the famous Sundial Bridge, and the recently renovated downtown Cascade Theatre offers shows by entertainment personalities and Broadway plays.

Easy Access to Shopping

Redding offers easy access to all kinds of shopping. There is one enclosed mall and multiple major shopping centers and a factory outlet center. Redding also has 31 plus national chain retailers and more are scheduled for future development.

Entertainment, Nightlife, Festivals and Annual Events

Redding and the nearby surrounding areas offer a multitude of community events each year. Kool April Nites, The Redding Rodeo and famous Asphalt Cowboy's Pancake Breakfast, The Rodeo Parade, The Trade Club's Lighted Christmas Parade, Marketfest, to name a few. The Exchange Club's Air Show is held bi-annually. In addition, there are approximately 24 more festivals and events to fill in the annual calendar.
